Blackdeath: Totentaz

January 8, 2016

Hailing from Russia comes Blackdeath to slaughter souls and burn down churches or mosques clearly. Just judging from the cover art of their album Totentaz you may be able to deduce that they play some barbaric black metal, and if that is what you thought then you are pretty damn spot on. The black metal that Blackdeath plays really is primitive and purely raw and uncut. After just a few minutes of listening you can see darkened ooze dripping from your speakers only to consume you with hate and malevolence.

These Russians are dripping with pure hate and blasphemy and it shows throughout the album. As great as it is that black metal has been expanding over the years and adding different genres to the fold and creating new sounds, there isn’t anything quite like pure hateful and unfiltered black metal.

Totentaz is so raw you can still see the embers burning from the recording sessions. Once the intro is over and finished, Blackdeath ignite a blazing inferno. Once they begin, they won’t stop and there is nothing you can do to stop them from burning every church in your town and sacrificing every living thing in sight.

Their release is a pure visceral discharge of spewing hate and infernal and diabolical lyrics. Once you begin listening you become trapped in a vortex of venom and hell fire. The quicker you succumb to the darkness the less pain you will feel once swallowed by every darkening blackness.

The raw sound that Blackdeath emits is gripping and cold and yet it sets you ablaze at every chance that it gets. Once the demons that this album summoned get their hands on you your life is over. Not only to the demon spawn rip and tear, but the music itself infects you and shreds you from the inside out.

Each riff burns with blackened hell fire and scorches your flesh beyond recognition. The drums give you a savage relentless beating and the more you fight the more painful the kicks get. Don’t believe you can escape the jaws of the thick and rumbling bass either because there is nowhere to run. Pummeling through the music are the vocals that are screamed at you like a mad man that just escaped a penitentiary. The vocals are raw and throat slitting and yelled at you from what seems to be the bowels of hell.

Blackdeath is a satanic militia to be reckoned with. Totentaz is as raw and piercing as they come. But don’t say I didn’t warn you. Once you listen, you may be trapped in the burning pits of Sodom for eternity.
