There isn’t anything quite like a kick straight to the teeth, or a baseball bat to the side of your cranium, and there isn’t anything quite like good old fashioned grind. The split between Department of Correction and Proletar feels like what was listed above after a listen. Both bands are incredibly chaotic and make this split a fire bomb of grinding madness. There isn’t a shortage of noise here, and both bands aim to drive you mad and drive a pick ax through the side of your head.
In pure grind etiquette the songs are kept short and punchy leaving you battered and bruised in a matter of minutes. If you don’t pay attention for a few moments the split is over. It attacks you like a bull on cocaine and maims and rips you to shreds enough to the point where you aren’t recognizable. A wall of noise is spit out at you through your speakers at a high velocity and leaves a gaping hole in your chest.
Each barreling, writhing and C4 strapped song doesn’t give up or let up until your ears bleed and until your neck is snapped clean in half from all of the headbanging. If you want a relaxing moment in this split you won’t find one and you won’t find a moment to breathe either. Since everything comes at you at such a high speed your lungs burst and you suffocate in mere minutes.
Both Department of Correction and Proletar play grind in the vein of the old school bands. They don’t try to reinvent the wheel, they just set it on fire and keep it rolling along. This is good old fashioned grind that smashes your knees and kicks your head in. At a certain point you become immersed in noise and you can’t tell where the noise is coming from or where it will be coming from next.
Grind is suppose to make you feel completely insane and make you thrash around like someone in a loony bin that didn’t take their meds. With this split that is exactly what you feel like. You can’t help but to headbang and destroy whatever it is that you can get your hands on when listening.
Every riff is fired at you as though they were fired out of an AK-47, the drums are relentless and burst your ear drums whether you really did want that to happen or not, the bass is a wrecking ball and the vocals are screamed and roared at you from every direction. You get assaulted and beaten into submission with every song . The overall sound is that of inferno like chaos, and that is what grind-among other things-stands for.
This split is a madhouse and induces enough debauchery to last at least a couple of months. If you need some adrenaline or just pure grinding insanity, you may as well mainstream this into your veins. This release is a headbanging good time, and remember it’s grind that melts steel beams.
