Specializing in purely chaotic and punishing music is Caligari Records and to begin the year they released this wonderfully brutalizing album by Obduktio. This self titled release by these death dealers is definitely chaotic and doesn’t let you think otherwise. Not only do they incorporate death metal, but they also sew in black metal and punk influences to create something like a maelstrom. There is one whole song that passes the three minute mark, but other than that each song passes you in the blink of an eye without you having known that you were brutally attacked.

If you stop paying attention for just a minute you are already half way through the release. Obduktio is incredibly blistering and plays at a pace that is blood bubbling and skin melting, and not only that but they never offer any apologies after causing as much mayhem as they possibly can. All together this release is a sinister medley of metal, and not once does it let you recuperate from anything.

The entire release is raw and purely visceral and provides you with an energy that just cannot be captured. Obduktio has an innate ability to make you mosh and headbang until you fucking head falls off. This release doesn’t pull any punches and they pull out all of the stops giving you something that is savage and doesn’t stop grinding your head against the grindstone even after you are well done with listening.

Caligari Records specializes in metal that is chaotic and all together disgusting, and with Obduktio that still remains true. This band is relentless in their pursuit of complete and utter destruction. Through twelve songs you are their torture victim and you shouldn’t be surprised if you feel as though you’ve been beaten with a corroded lead pipe; and on the same note don’t feel surprised if your ears begin to bleed and you begin to spew blood.

Through twelve songs you get riffs that are wrist slitting, a drumming performance that is on point and completely insane, bass lines that are thick and ever present, and vocals that are insane and leave the vocalist needing a new throat after recording. A new set of ears are needed only after one listen and new organs will need to be transplanted after yours are ruptured.

This self titled release is chaos and as raw an punishing as you would like it to be. Obduktio is a monster in their own right and their power is felt through these songs. As short as they are, there is no doubt that each song is heavy and provides you with enough bruises and ruptured arteries to last a life time.
