Bewitcher: S/T

Seemingly shot straight out of the mid eighties like a bat out of hell is Bewitcher. Their newest offering is a self titled one that sports nine songs of blistering and earth scorching old-school blackened thrash metal. Their song Speed ’til You Bleed on this record is a pretty good summary of what this record is all about. Bewitcher does a great job of hammering the throttle down throughout this entire record by giving you purely ear slashing and neck snapping metal. This self titled release isn’t just an album that you can headbang to and thrash out to, this is a record that you can break your neck to and cause as much mayhem as you can to.

Bewitcher plays an unapologetic style of blackened thrash that is raw, gritty and down right filthy. With the already old-school sound that Bewitcher gives off, the production brings that sound to a different height and makes the entire record feel as though it was dug up in a basement full of eighties records. This visceral and raw sound is infectious and highly memorable as each song gets stuck your brain making you uncontrollably headbang without warning.

After a minute long intro Bewitcher has you diving head first into a wall of grimy and blistering noise and from then on the onslaught doesn’t stop. This self titled record isn’t incredibly long, but within the time that you are listening they pack a ton of hair singeing metal. Well after the listen is over you will still feel yourself headbanging and busting out air guitar licks.

The sound that Bewitcher pumps through your speakers and straight into your brain is powerful and the only way to play this record is by cranking your speakers as loud as they can go. With this release Bewitcher provides you with a straight shot of hellish metal that gets you up and thrashing around destroying everything that you can get your hands on. Bewitcher doesn’t give you time to take a break from all of the whiplash like headbanging as one song rolls to the next main lining raw blackened thrash to your veins.

Each of the nine songs are riddled with slashing riffs along with rumbling bass lines and skull shattering  drumming. Piercing straight through the maelstrom of instruments are hellish gravel filled vocals that would make the hair on the back of any demon stand straight up. These blasphemous metallers offer you something that is heavy and entirely dangerous and all at the same time it is incredibly infectious.

With this new album Bewitcher has put forth something that should get a lot of rotations and a lot of people to headbang like their very lives depend on it. This record has just about everything in it from heavy sinister riffs, gritty vocals, great production and even more and with everything combined into one sickening cauldron you get a listen that sticks with you and gets you headbanging even after the final track has ended.
