CHAOS MONGERING DEGRADATION cover art

Hailing from Phoenix, Arizona is Ceremented and above you see the cover for their recently released demo. Chaos Mongering Degradation is the name of the demo and it features four songs that are pumped full of death metal and doom to create a sound that is purely abysmal. Both doom and death are already abysmal and purely sinister, but you add a raw and unfiltered sound to them such as Ceremented has done and what you get is a jarring listen. From one song to the next you get bombarded by droning death fueled doom metal and not only that but Ceremented will be damned if they don’t blow out your speakers in the process.

Chaos Mongering Degradation begins with ominous and haunting sounds with the song Reek of Pestilent Death and over half way into the song the sounds shrink back into the shadows from whence they came and the skull rattling doom takes over. If Ceremented really wanted to, they could just be a full fledged doom band. The style of doom that they play within this demo is heavy, thick, buzzing and ultimately sinister. However, Ceremented is not just a doom band as they inject elements of death metal into their brand of metallic noise as well.

When the monstrous sounds of doom metal subside, death metal takes over and does its best to peel your skin right off of your flesh. The combination of doom and death gives you something more to listen for and keeps you on your toes. Ceremented does a great job of mixing both doom and death together giving you both low and slow doom one minute and immediately transitioning into flesh flaying death metal and back again. The majority of the demo is played in the style of doom, but when needed Ceremented kick up the pace and put you on a crash course with death.

This demo is incredibly raw as it sounds as though it were recorded underground. The production gives off an unfiltered sound and ultimately gives the overall sound of this demo an extra layer of filth. Chaos Mongering Degradation is filthy and disgusting as it buries you under heaps of bodies and layers upon layers of oozing grime. All of that grime is brought to you by cadaverous riffs, pummeling drumming, buzzing bass lines and sickening and sinister vocals. The production combined with the style of play gives you a demo that sounds as though it was just dug up from a desecrated grave.

Chaos Mongering Degradation is a good demo that Ceremented can build off of. This is a rotting release that reeks to the heavens of putrefaction and prepares you for hopefully more cadaverous sounds from Ceremented.
