Kicking off 2017 in the most barbaric and brutal way possible is Acranius and in just a few weeks they will be unleashing their newest behemoth Reign of Terror. This new release by these slam heavy weights is more of what you would come to expect from Acranius. Reign of Terror is absolutely disgusting, destructive, heavy as fuck and it doesn’t hesitate to chew you up and spit you out. Each of the ten songs on this record are brutalizing as they have zero regard to human life what so ever. After one listen you end up looking like you got in a fight with a wood chipper and lost but even then you find yourself coming back for more.

Out of all of the ten songs that are on this release all ten sport flesh tearing riffs, spine breaking bass lines, skull smashing drums and ultra guttural vocals that tear your ear drums to shred. With all of that combined with nerve damaging slams what you get is an intense listen that gets your headbanging right from the get go and you just can’t stop until your head is rolling on the ground. This record is undeniably heavy and you just can’t help but to headbang yourself straight into oblivion and more than that you just can’t help it but to destroy everything it is that is near you as well. Reign of Terror does a great job of grabbing a hold of you and treating you to a completely savage and utterly destructive listen that gets you up and moving.

Reign of Terror is an absolute monster of an album that tears you limb from limb and doesn’t think twice about it. Each song on this record is just as heavy as the last and if you think that you could possibly escape from the sheer brutality of it all you would be mistaken. Acranius seems to have wanted to create a record that would bury you six feet under before you even touched the “play” button, and they are very successful at that. Just looking at the cover art you know that you are in for a gore, viscera and violent filled listen and that is exactly what these heathens provide you with and you wouldn’t expect any less.

This new release is well executed as the musicianship is tight, vocals are as savage as they should be and the production is great as well. Overall, Reign of Terror has a massive sound that just needs to be played well beyond the limits of your headphones or speakers or whatever it is that you would be listening to this record on. Reign of Terror is undeniably heavy and devastating and from note one it hooks you and doesn’t let you go until the last note has sounded off, and even then you still come back for more. Even when you are done listening this record is still playing in your head and you still end up spinning into a rampage when you play the head splitting slams over and over again in your head.

Overall, this record is a great listen. It is one that you remember for quite some time and one that you end up having a hard time putting down. If extreme metal, brutal death, slam or any of the above is your thing, you should not be skipping out on this album.
