Insania11: Of Blood and Light

February 3, 2017

With a pretty dense and powerful theme and with only five songs on their newest EP, Insania11 provides you with a comprehensive and thought provoking listen. Of Blood and Light is a themed EP that centers around H.U.Man, a person that transcends human form by shedding his blood and flesh to become pure light. The overall story and theme is very intriguing and within five songs you not only get a great story but you get great technical and progressive death metal as well. Insania11 does a good job of catching your attention and keeping it for the entirety of the EP.

Even though there are only five songs on this EP you are provided with plenty of content as each song-save for one-passes the four minute mark with one passing the eight minute mark. Five songs of course is not a lot, but the run time of this EP is pretty substantial which bodes well for Insania11 as they get the chance to fully tell their interesting story. Everything unfolds nicely within this EP as it builds up to the epic closer B Naural (The Sons of the Fifth Sun) and once it is over you feel the need to press play again.

There is quite a bit in this EP and each time that you listen you can pick things out that you hadn’t heard before. Of Blood and Light has many different layers to it which provides you with a great overall listening experience. This is an EP that you can’t really get bored listening to as it does provide you with a compelling story as well as face shredding technical progressive death metal. The concept is a nice touch to the EP but if it was just strictly technical progressive death metal by itself the EP would be just as entertaining.

Overall, this is a good EP, one that provides you with many listens and even after many listens you don’t find yourself getting bored or skipping songs. Everything on this EP is executed well and the story is compelling and interesting and ultimately that provides you with a solid and entertaining listen.
