Grog: Ablutionary Rituals

March 3, 2017

It has been twenty-six years since they first started and six years since their last full length, but this year Grog is back to mutilate and mangle with their fourth full length titled Ablutionary Rituals. Perfectly fusing grind and brutal death metal together, Grog creates a hellish and flesh ripping sound that is just as memorable as it is brutalizing. Within this new record you are provided with fourteen new tracks that are just as thirsty for blood and flesh as Jeffrey Dahmer was. The first thing that you notice when cracking into this record is the fetid stench of death that seeps out from it, and the second thing you notice is the blasting and unholy pulverizing metal.

Ablutionary Rituals-as well as Grog-seems to have a complete disregard for human life and will decimate anyone or anything that gets in its way. From beginning to end this record is a grinding madhouse that twists necks, stomps heads and lets blood run through the streets. Once you press play you get fourteen straight songs of blood soaked and viscera caked metal that just keep rolling. Grog doesn’t stop to add any fillers or fluff at all as they roll out song after devastating song that keep your headbanging and your flesh tearing.

This new record is a disgusting display of brutal death and grind. The two genres all by themselves are already chaotic and madness, but when you combine the two and combine them well, your end result is what Grog is and what they are going for. Each song on this record is ultra brutal and uncompromising as they should be and right off the bat they aim straight for your jugular. Ablutionary Rituals is as rolling death machine that litters the streets with petrified corpses and fetid viscera. There isn’t much you can do to stop the death and decay once it starts, and all that you really can do is listen and hope that you survive.

What’s nice about this record as well, is that there is no pause in between songs at all. Once one ends the next begins a half second later to finish off what the previous song had started. There is just no room to breath when listening to this record as all of the space is taken up by filthy, grimy, and wholly disgusting brutal death metal. But as gore filled and viscera packed as this record is that isn’t all that this record is either. Ablutionary Rituals is a technical and well crafted release as well. Each song sports technical precision, great song writing and production to provide you with a sickening and memorable listen.

Ablutionary Rituals isn’t just for gore fiends as it is also for the grind, death metal, brutal death metal and extreme metal fans. This record provides a lot of content for the listener and provides plenty of variety as well, and with that being said, Ablutionary Rituals is a great, neck snapping record.

Ablutionary Rituals will be released March 8, 2017 through Helldprod/Murder Records.
