Mind Mold: S/T

May 8, 2017

Dissonant, discordant, bleak and other descriptors can be used to describe Mind Mold and their brand of music, but one that describes them the best is unique. Mind Mold play a mind bending brand of dissonant blackened doom that lurches along at a slow burning yet fast pace that keeps you pushed back in your seat and listening all throughout. This new release by Mind Mold is a self titled EP that harbors five tracks of excellent atmospheric and vast tunes for your soul to collapse under.

This EP is raw and pumped full of energy and emotion to create something that is unique, fresh and entirely entertaining. Mind Mold mix together the dark dirges of doom and the frigid blastings of black metal together expertly to provide you with a completely darkened, sinister and twisting tone. Mind Mold never lingers too long on any one thing as  they switch tempos and sounds quite often keeping the EP moving at a brisk pace. Mind Mold keeps their momentum going from one song to the next never really giving you a break from the all out blackened assault.

Not only does Mind Mold captivate your mind with abstract riffs, acrobatic drumming and throat tearing vocals, but they do so with a surreal and vast atmosphere as well. Mind Mold does a great job of not only pummeling you with their twisted brand of metal, but they also do a great job of enchanting you and taking your mind through dark, harrowing and expansive atmospheres as well. Even the atmosphere within this EP is never static as it shifts and takes different forms depending on the sound that Mind Mold is giving off.

Each song is a swirling and twisting dirge of blackened doom that catches your attention immediately and keeps your attention all throughout. Even though each song on this release sports shorter run times than you would expect a doom release to have, Mind Mold does a good job of creating a vast and full bodied listening experience. There is no filler within this EP and there is no fluff either as what you get is five tracks of mind bending, dissonant and turbulent blackened doom.

There isn’t a song on this release that you would ever think about skipping as each song is incredibly solid and overall a blast to listen to. Mind Mold has created something that is energetic, emotional, bleak, enigmatic and most importantly, one hell of a great listen.
