No conversation about death metal forefathers and death metal greats would be complete without uttering the name Morbid Angel. These death metal merchants have put out great records such as: Altars of Madness, Blessed Are The Sick, Covenant, Formulas Fatal To The Flesh and much more. In 2011 we saw the coming of Illud Divinum Insanus, a less than well received record, and from then on we all have been waiting six long years for the return of Morbid Angel, and with their newest effort Kingdoms Disdained they have returned. Scrapping the ideas and sounds that found them no success with Illud Divinum Insanus, Morbid Angel returns with a more straight forward death metal approach that is all together brutal, heavy, and more of what we have come to expect from these death metal greats.

Morbid Angel begins their newest slaughtering offering with Piles of Little Arms and from there on out they keep their collective feet on the gas never to look back. From the opener on you are presented with nothing but furious and pummeling death metal that snaps your head back before you know what hit you. Each of the eleven tracks on this record are brain scrambling sonic walls of unrelenting death that aim right for your throat from the drop of the first note. Kingdoms Disdained as a whole is a blasting and chaotic record that gets your head banging from the get go. There is no filler or fluff within this release as what you get is eleven solid tracks of pure unfiltered and pissed of death metal that aims to take your head clean off of your shoulders.

Kingdoms Disdained is a ferocious and malevolent record that doesn’t let you off the hook what so ever. From the first track on you become under siege from gut ripping riffs, barreling and chest caving drumming as well as throat ripping hellish vocals that curdle your blood. Each track is a barrage of putrid death that never lets you escape from its grasp. Once you press play, Kingdoms Disdained grabs you by the jaw only to pummel you close to death before digging you a shallow unmarked grave. The overall sound of each track on this release is monstrous and you can feel the weight of each track bearing down upon you. Kingdoms Disdained is an unrelenting and unforgiving listen, one that makes you feel as though you have been put through the wringer once you are done.

Morbid Angel rolls from one track to the next with ease, culling anything and anyone in their path it seems. Each track is a bludgeoning effort and they certainly are the total death machines that they were constructed to be. While nothing on this effort is incredibly ground breaking, this effort shows that Morbid Angel is truly back to form and back to their mayhem fueled death metal roots. Kingdoms Disdained is flesh peeling and face melting offering that warrants you to crank your stereos up and keep it on repeat. Overall, this is an entertaining and addictive release that is just incredibly hard to not want to listen to.

Kingdoms Disdained is a great come back for Morbid Angel after the fall off from their previous record. As mentioned before, this is the type of record that we all were hoping for from these death metal greats and they delivered. This is a brain bashing good time when listening, and when you aren’t listening the tracks will be playing in your head.
