VoidCeremony: Foul Origins of Humanity

January 31, 2018

voidceremony - foul cover haulix.jpg

Ever twisting and contorting like a serpent squeezing the life out of its prey is VoidCeremony with their upcoming offering Foul Origins of Humanity. This three track release is a foul and degrading beast of nothing but poisonous rabid blackened death metal. Through this three track offering, VoidCeremony present you with technical, ever shifting serpentine blackened death metal that dizzies your mind and befouls your soul. With three sprawling tracks of malice and malevolence, VoidCeremony take you through winding passageways of pure darkness that shroud you in utter darkness and chaos.

VoidCeremony begin their new aural assault with Through the Woe of Dismal Pandemonium, which is a roaring four minute track that sets the pace and the tone for what is left to come. From this track you come face to face with diabolical, technical riffs that peel your flesh from bone as well as hellish blood thirsty vocals that seem to be howled out through the void. From Through the Woe of Dismal Pandemonium on through to the next two tracks you hear more of VoidCeremony’s expansive, chaotic blackened mayhem.

Through the Woe of Dismal Pandemonium rolls straight in to Epoch_Noxious Primal Birth which is another ripping soul demoralizing track that snaps your head clean back from the drop of the first note. Much like the first track, Epoch_Noxious Primal Birth provides you with nothing but ripping malevolence as it eats away at your soul leaving you feeling defeated. Through the first two tracks, VoidCeremony creates a head spinning hurricane of blistering miasma. Never once does VoidCeremony give you a break as they keep on shoveling cold, mold infested dirt over your damp and dark coffin.

The third and final-and longest-track of Foul Origins of Humanity immediately follows Epoch_Noxious Primal Birth never providing you with a breather before yet another storm of blackened death fury reigns down upon you. This final track-Time Sorceries-picks up right where Epoch left off, gifting you with even more soul devouring metal to consume. This track is an expansive one, taking your mind through dark corridors leading you to nothing but death and despair. Unlike the other two tracks that came before it, Time Sorceries is purely an instrumental track that bends your mind and takes you on plenty of twists and turns before it finally concludes. This final track is just as sinister and brain bashing as the other two and is a great way to conclude what is an overall great listen.

Foul Origins of Humanity is a solid release through and through providing you with three excellent tracks that are sure to buzz around in your head. This release is dark, grim, serpentine, venomous, technical and of course down right heavy. Let VoidCeremony take your mind through darkened passages devoid of light with Foul Origins of Humanity.

Foul Origins of Humanity will be released through Blood Harvest February 16, 2018

shambles cover haulix.jpg

For Shambles’ upcoming release, Primitive Death Trance is an appropriate name. Through four tracks Shambles puts you in a catatonic state having you stare through the void only seeking death within minutes. Primitive Death Trance is a gutted, stripped down record that is filled to the bursting point with primitive death doom for your foul consumption. Each of the four tracks is a grisly slab of death that slowly burns, haunting you like a reaper waiting to cull his next victim. In this ever relentless twisting onslaught of mutilating death fueled doom, Shambles has you staring in to the never ending darkness with dead eyes until the veil of sickening malevolence lifts.

Shambles slowly trudges through each track only to break out in dirges of gutting death metal when needed. This bare bones assault from these doom merchants leaves you buried underneath unfortunate souls and emaciated remains. Primitive Death Trance is a cold and barbaric release that charges forward with ill intent and malevolence in mind. Primitive Death Trance invokes visions of cold soulless darkness devoid of light but filled with macabre visions of the damned.

This release is hypnotic in a sinister and twisted way. From the first note on, Shambles not only grabs but demands your attention. Primitive Death Trance is a deadly release, one that drags you through the darkness never resting even for a moment. These four dirges are unrelenting and never ceasing as they crawl forth with murderous and malicious intent. Primitive Death Trance is a great EP through and through setting you up for even more doom misery to come.

Crypt Rot/Cringe: Nocturnal Deterioration x Memento Mori Split EP

January 29, 2018

crypt rot split.jpg

Intensity, grime and pure spine severing tracks is what you get with Crypt Rot and Cringe’s upcoming split. Through five total tracks both Crypt Rot and Cringe gift you with brain numbing and face peeling tunes that immediately grab you by the jaw never to let you go until the whole life deteriorating listen is over. Each band mash together death metal, some elements of thrash as well as elements of punk/hardcore to present to you a ferocious, furious and malevolent release that is sure to cave your skull in. Both bands bring an energetic and frenzied style to the table that whips you around beating you senseless.

The first two tracks on this split belong to Crypt Rot who begins the entire release with Butchered Slumber, a skin bubbling, flesh gnashing and incredibly bombastic offering. Butchered Slumber sets the tone for what is left to come, and what is left to come is even more debauchery and malevolence. This first track is one that kicks your teeth down your throat from the very first minute and keeps on stomping until you no longer can breathe. Crypt Rot blasts away on this offering leaving no punches pulled and leaving nothing on the table. Crypt Rot comes barreling out of your speakers with ill intent as they slash at you with grim filled riffs that are only to be paired with chest caving drumming and throat shredding screams that ring through your head for days to come. More of this dehumanizing onslaught is to be heard with their second and final track of the split titled Serpentine Atonement. This track tops seven minutes, and for each of those seven minutes you are greeted with even more tempestuous, sharp and gritty metal that does its best to bury you beneath the soil. Serpentine Atonement is a blistering, dark and ever twisting track that leaves your head spinning. The thing that stuck out to me with this track is the implementation of clean vocals. With a track such as this and with the sound that Crypt Rot produces, one may think that cleanly sung vocals may not fit, but they definitely do. These vocals don’t appear incredibly often throughout Serpentine Atonement, but when they do they add a haunting kind of atmosphere to the track gifting you with something surprising and incredibly welcomed. Both tracks that Crypt Rot offer up on this split are well done and well crafted gifting you with nothing but an outstanding listen.

The final three track of this split belong to Cringe. Stylistically Cringe is similar to Crypt Rot but with their sound firmly rooted in the thrash genre. Much like Crypt Rot, Cringe implements elements of death metal as well as punk/hardcore to create a mayhem filled storm of metallic fury. Cringe begin their side of the split with Searing Sin, a blasting thrash filled offering that gets your head banging almost immediately. With furious riffs that are paired with ever blasting drumming and vocals that are yelled at you from all angles, you are gifted with nothing but head banging goodness that you aren’t soon to forget. The overall sound of not only Searing Sin but the other two tracks are bombastic, fiery and filled with plenty of neck breaking and whiplash inducing energy. From Searing Sin, Cringe rolls straight in to Tribulation that begins with a little intro before heading in to more mayhem. Tribulation is a considerably slower track than Searing Sin but still offers up plenty of heavy stomping madness for you to consume. From Tribulation comes Flesh Famine, which is another madhouse of thrashing hardcore madness that is easy to get in to and easy to bang your head to. Flesh Famine is the second blistering track that Cringe offers up. This track is filled with plenty of flesh flaying riffs that are coupled with flying solos as well as more mashing drumming and manic vocals. Flesh Famine is a short track, but one that packs plenty a punch.

Both sides of this split are great and each band brings plenty of furiosity, grit and pure metallic fury to the table. You can’t go wrong here if you are a fan of thrash, death metal, punk/hardcore. This is a well done split that will leave you feeling as though you have been fed straight through a wood chipper.

Nocturnal Deterioration x Memento Mori Split EP will be released February 8, 2018 through Redefining Darkness and Seeing Red Records.

Galvanizer: Sanguine Vigil

January 29, 2018

After two demo tapes and an EP, Finnish death grinders Galvanizer grace us this year with their debut full length record titled Sanguine Vigil. Through ten tracks Galvanizer perfectly mixes their old-school style of death metal with grind to create a turbulent, skin blistering and violent listen. Sanguine Vigil is a raw and punishing release that never releases you from its clutches even for a second as it blasts and chips away at your skull only to continuously peel your face back as each minute passes. This offering is a tempest of nothing but brutalizing metal that terrorizes you from beginning to end.

Galvanizer begins their new offering with Mood For The Blade, which begins with a spoken word intro where a man is describing how a particular serial killer was born. Once the intro concludes, Galvanizer blasts off hammering you to death with incredibly savage drum blasts and rotted riffs. The sound is primitive, raw and unfiltered leaving you feeling disgusting and grimy after a listen. Each track is purely putrid and filled with enough viscera and rot to last you a life time and then some. All ten of the tracks that make their grisly appearance on this slaughtering record are barbaric and unrelenting as they come at you much like a killer pursuing his prey.

These Finnish fiends roll from track to track lopping the heads off of anyone that dare listen or stand in their way, and they move on to the next shattering bones and tearing apart their next victim mercilessly. Sanguine Vigil is a brutal and relentlessly twisted record that grabs a hold of your throat from the drop of the first note only to hold you hostage for the entirety of the record. Once you begin listening you become trapped in Galvanizer’s madhouse of bloated corpses and unimaginable horrors. Through and through, Sanguine Vigil blasts away chipping away at your skull only to drain your brain leading you to your (un)fortunate demise.

Sanguine Vigil is a menacing and down right repugnant record that keeps you coming back for more and more twisted vile goodness. From the very beginning you get a tepid whiff of rotting death and that stench and the deadly atmosphere that Galvanizer provides follows you throughout the entire release. This is one barbaric, primitive and flesh shredding release that will have you digging your own shallow grave before you know it. Sanguine Vigil is a great debut album for these Finnish monsters and an overall great death grind record period.

Sanguine Vigil will be out through Everlasting Spew Records February 28, 2018.

Burial Chamber: Ripping the Dead

January 25, 2018

Ripping through hordes of decaying putrescent flesh is Burial Chamber’s newest offering Ripping the Dead. This disease ridden monster of an album is filled with nine total tracks that are sure to sever your head and scoop your brains out. Each track is a barbaric onslaught that leave you bloodied and mangled. From beginning to end Burial Chamber pour their brand of brutal death metal on thick with dirge of suffering after dirge of suffering. These gore fiends don’t wait for you to get comfortable as they begin your torture nearly immediately pummeling you with flesh gnashing riffs and filthy bass lines.

Ripping the Dead is a truly monstrous and devastating offering from these Aussie sickos. With this being only their second album since their inception in 2007, this is an incredibly solid effort. Each track is just as pummeling and degrading as the last and never once does Burial Chamber let you off of the operating table. With precision and a monstrous tendency to pick you a part, shredding you limb from limb, Burial Chamber provides you with nothing but pure brutal death metal misery. With the passing of each bloodied track you become more and more aware that your time has come to an end.

As Burial Chamber passes through each track they dig further and further in to your skull exposing your rotted brain. These monsters and masters of death bear down upon you from the opening track on with buzz saw like riffs that are coupled with bone rattling bass lines and barreling blasting drums. Fleshing themselves out through the sonic bulldozer of putrid death are the unearthly and blood thirsty vocals. The instrumentation, vocals and production throughout this offering are all on point creating one deadly, malevolent and incredibly vicious listen. Ripping the Dead as a whole is a mutilating and deforming record that puts you in an early grave after you have been ripped to pieces and gutted mercilessly.

This is an unrelenting and inhumane record that treats you as though you are nothing but a pile of flesh and bone. Ripping the Dead is a solid record through and through and one hell of a brutal death metal record in general. Each track is well constructed and formed for the purpose of lobotomizing you and culling the weak. Overall, Ripping the Dead is an entertaining, highly volatile and neck snapping record that you can’t seem to get enough of.

Grave Spirit: The Beast Unburdened By Flesh

January 24, 2018

cover haulix.jpg

Howling through the void only to reach in to your soul and bring you despair and chaotic darkness is Grave Spirit. Grave Spirit was formed in molten darkness and sickening malevolence in early 2017, and late that same year these shadow dwellers unleashed their debut EP The Beast Unburdened By Flesh. This EP consists of only two tracks that sew together black metal and elements of death metal to create horrifying corpse raising metal for your sick twisted mind. Upon pressing play, Grave Spirit doesn’t waste a minute to shroud you in their hell fire baptized soul shredding tunes. From the first note on, Grave Spirit does a great job of gnashing at your flesh, never relenting until the final note has rang through and rattled through your skull.

Each of the two tracks on this release are terrorizing and pure blackened chaos. Though there are only two tracks within this title, you are sure to leave the listen with your head spinning dangling from a thread. The Beast Unburdened By Flesh is an unrelenting beast to be reckoned with. With just two tracks to its name it packs more than a hellish punch with each of the two tracks invoking the wrath of the wicked and damned. The Beast Unburdened By Flesh rips, roars and tears straight through whatever amount of humanity that you had left, instilling only darkness and dread in your mind.

This EP is a great foreshadowing of what is hopefully to come from these blasting heathens. This is a solid effort through and through from the musicianship to the production. It will be great to see where Grave Spirit takes things from here, but if this EP is any indication of what is to come, I’m sure we can expect more great blackened metal.

FilthxCollins/Skinlover: Split

January 22, 2018

If you stop paying attention for just a second the split between FilthxCollins and Skinlover is over. This split is an incredibly fast and chaotic split that gets your brain doing somersaults from the very first second. In typical spine bending grind fashion, FilthxCollins and Skinlover provide you with fourteen total tracks that are chaotic maelstroms of searing skull rattling metal. FilthxCollins kicks the split off with Bacterial Empires which begins is vertebrae damaging fashion. The intensity that FilthxCollins starts this split off with is the same kind of intensity that remains throughout the entirety of this effort.

The first ten tracks belong to FilthxCollins and each one is just as insane and punishing as the others. Once FilthxCollins begins their buzzing skull mashing assault they keep on smashing their boot down on your throat until you stop breathing. Each track that FilthxCollins provides you here is a mayhem propelled grinding blitzkrieg that rolls from track to track bloodying and battering you until you are motionless. Each offering from these grind heathens is incredibly short with the longest track clocking in at just over one minute. For a very short period of time, FilthxCollins packs a massive punch leaving an indent in your skull. From the guttural vocals to the finger snapping riffs and the incredibly tumultuous drumming you are in for quite the detrimental, brain bruising and entertaining ride.

The final four tracks of this split belong to Skinlover, who combines more hardcore and powerviolence elements to their style. Skinlover’s four tracks make you feel beaten down and as though you are being repeatedly kicked and stomped on. Each of the four tracks are punchy, violent and unapologetic. Right from the get go Skinlover starts swinging and with each track they connect over and over again snapping your head back. Each track is filled with grind filled madness as well as slower more trudging passages that beat you straight in to the ground. Skinlover provides you with shredding anvil heavy riffs that are sewn together with manic screams and barbaric blasting drums to gift you with a powerful and menacing overall sound. Through their four tracks, Skinlover provides you with a heavy ear drum shredding listen that is hard to forget.

This split between these two anarchic bands is a solid one. This effort is a high velocity sonic assault that leaves your neck bent for quite some time to come.

Zeolite: Sermones Mortis

January 22, 2018

There must be something in the mid strength beer in Australia as it has become a breeding ground for heavy metal acts over the last however many years. That being said, Zeolite is a deathcore/technical death metal crossover band that hails from Melbourne, Australia. Sermones Mortis is their sophomore EP which contains five brand new tracks of incredibly punishing, brain rattling and bone shattering death metal. Zeolite kicks their explosive EP off with Malignant, which leads you in with a bit of an ominous intro  before kicking your teeth straight down your throat. Once the intro has concluded, Zeolite bring the blood spurting pain with blasting drumming, and disgustingly jarring riffs.

From Malignant on, you are treated to four more tracks of nothing but neck breaking brutality. There are no punches pulled within this offering and there certainly isn’t any fluff to be found as Zeolite rolls out track after track of deadly skull shattering death metal. Even when the third track Reticent appears-which is a straight forward instrumental-you aren’t given a breather what so ever. Each track on this release does its best job to make you feel as though your life is ending and at the end of the listen Sermones Mortis makes you feel as though you have taken a baseball bat to the face repeatedly.

Sermones Mortis is a punishing onslaught of nothing but metallic pain and fury. This five track offering is unrelenting and unforgiving as it provides you with nothing but violent and cutting tracks for you to turn your brain in to mush to. This EP is a bulldozer of death as it culls the weak and tramples the deceased. From beginning to end you are under siege by this sonic death machine. You are granted zero breaks or reprieve from the utter onslaught, and in only five tracks Zeolite puts you through the wringer only to throw you out like a useless corpse at the end of it all.

Once you press play, there is nothing that you can do other than sit back and let Zeolite smash your face to pieces. This is a harsh, jagged, technical and down right heavy piece of work and an overall great sophomore effort from these Aussies.
