Draghkar split.jpg

Death, nothing but the pungent and vile stench of death can be found within this Desekryptor and Draghkar split. Upon pressing play the foul odor of stagnant blood and decaying entrails fill your nostrils, giving you a little bit of an insight as to what you are about to witness. This split features two tracks that are malignant, vile and blood letting as they both charge at you with murderous intent. Though this split is very short, it certainly does more than pack a punch as it aims for your jugular from the onset never to stop hacking and slashing at your throat until you are completely drained of your crimson blood and marrow.

Each of these tracks are raw and unrelenting gifting you with an intense and savage listen, one that doesn’t let you escape alive. The first offering comes from Desekryptor titled The Ceremony of Cleaning Corpses. This near four minute track rains a heaping dose of blood curdling and terrorizing death down upon you leaving you covered in rot. The Ceremony of Cleaning Corpses is a neck snapping ode to death itself that leaves you lying as nothing but a cloud of blood by the end. From the very beginning, this gnarled and filthy track rears its undead head to offer you up some incredibly twisted and mutilating metal of death. With disease tainted riffs, monstrous roars from an abandoned crypt and ever assaulting drumming, The Ceremony of Cleaning Corpsesis a very deadly, heavy and murderous offering.

Following The Ceremony of Cleaning Corpses is Draghkar’s new track Stealing The Keys To Nothingness. Much like the rotten track before it, Stealing The Keys to Nothingness is just as a gruesome and gangrenous track. Offering up four minutes itself, Stealing The Keys to Nothingness is a grave desecrating and flesh gnashing track that starts off with a slower tempo for a short while before picking the pace up to an all out aural assault. Draghkar rumbles through minute after minute providing you with a savage, rotting and entrails spilling sound. This four minute blood drenched offering leaves you lifeless buried under cold soil.

This split between these two death metal stalwarts is a monstrous and impressive effort. The quality of death here between these two tracks is astounding as you get nothing but pure, fetid death.

This split tape will be released April 20, 2018 through Blood Harvest Records.

Forte Ruin: Rebuilding the Machinery

March 15, 2018

Forte Ruin_EP_COVER.jpg

Three years have passed since Forte Ruin’s initial step in to the melodic death metal echelon. Now, three years later Forte Ruin is back with a five track EP by the title Rebuilding the Machinery. Forte Ruin continues on where they left off three years ago with their self titled EP as they supply you with incredibly catchy, heavy, melodic and of course memorable tunes. Much like other melodic death metal bands, Forte Ruin balance both the heavy and the melodic to provide you with an overall smooth and incredibly palatable listen.

Each of the five offerings within Rebuilding the Machinery are undeniably catchy, undeniably melodic and undeniably heavy. This EP will be stuck in your head for some time to come never able to shake any one of the tracks that appear on this release. Forte Ruin does a great job of constructing tracks that are easy to listen to and never stop listening to. With very solid musicianship that is backed with both gritty roars as well as pure angelic clean sung vocals, you become entranced never wanting to leave your listen or pull away from your speakers. Backing everything in melodic and serene fashion are ever present synths that tack on to the already melodious nature of Forte Ruin. These synths propel each track further, pushing them in to an even more melodious and wondrous soundscape than before.

As melodic and light as these tracks on Rebuilding the Machinery can be, Forte Ruin certainly does not skip out on supplying you with heavy head banging offerings. With melodic and serene comes the heavy and punishing as Forte Ruin provide you with rapid fire crunching riff after riff that are backed by ever blasting, somersaulting drumming. Forte Ruin balances the melodic with the heavy very well to create a sound that is wondrous, very infectious and highly memorable.

Rebuilding the Machinery is an all around solid effort in which each of the five tracks are just as good as the others. The balance of melody and heavy handed death metal here works so well gifting you with a cohesive listen that is hard to forget. With heavy riffing paired with the ever melodious synths and with harsh gritty screams paired with wonderfully clean sung vocals you are treated to a well rounded and well constructed effort. This is another great step for Forte Ruin in the right direction and it will be exciting to see what they have to offer when a full length appears.

Blissful Stream: Dead Religious

March 13, 2018

With an overall eclectic and diverse sound, Blissful Stream sew doom, sludge, heavy metal and hard rock together to create an overall head nodding and unique listen. Through this one man band’s newest offering Dead Religious, you are presented with four new tracks that take all of the aforementioned genres and stitch them together neatly through each track to provide you with a varied sound.

Dead Religious kicks off with the doom laden track Downfall which offers up a slow burning, murky and fuzzed out sound that submerges you in sludge filled ever trudging riffs. Downfall is the most murky and somber offering on this release as it takes you through crumbling corridors of buzzing riffs and pounding drumming for four minutes before turning you over to the more heavy metal and hard rock sounding tracks Into the Abyss and Dead Religious. Both of these tracks utilize their hard rock and heavy metal components to gift you with a faster paced, head nodding and memorable sound. Both of these tracks greet you with intensely buzzing riffs that are paired with ever rumbling bass lines and crisp ever gritty and blackened vocals. Downfall  and Dead Religious get your head nodding and brain buzzing before you descend to the fourth and final track Black Ships.

The final track Black Ships is all around the best and most well put together track on this release. This offering utilizes each of the genres that Blissful Stream sews in to his work, and this song utilizes them well. You get hints of heavy metal, hard rock and certainly hints of doom, and they all come together in miserable harmony to create a cohesive, smooth sounding track that is hard to shake. Black Ships is a very memorable, very intoxicating track that is certainly the perfect track to end Dead Religious with. Black Ships rocks with mid tempos and it slows down to a glacial pace with its doom offerings to present you with a gloom filled ever darkening sound that is hard to not love. This somber yet captivating track is a well rounded and very well  performed track that as mentioned before, is the perfect ending to an all around solid offering in Dead Religious.

This is a short release and yet it comes complete with plenty of variety and plenty of entertainment. Through four tracks you are greeted with a heavy dosing of heavy metal, hard rock as well as doom and sludge sprinkled in there for good measure. In my opinion, the tracks that focus more on the doom elements are the best tracks on the release as Blissful Stream hits them right out of the park. The middle two where hard rock and heavy metal are the focus are good solid tracks as well that get your head nodding and get you engaged. And with four total songs that are all around solid offerings, Dead Religious is an all around very good release that is highly entertaining, gloomy and memorable.
