the gale.jpg

Brewed in death, majestic melody and sorrowful atmosphere, Coldbound presents their fourth full length record The Gale. This release features nine total tracks that run this release around an hour. That hour goes by quickly through as Coldbound has a great ability to draw you in, captivate and keep your attention all throughout. Each of the nine tracks within this release-including the intro-are well crafted dirges of melodious death metal that will ring true through your mind for some time to come. Coldbound balance melody with brutalizing death exceptionally well throughout this release making this to be a very well balanced, heavy and engaging release.

The Gale begins with a near three minute intro that wonderfully sets the tone for the rest of the record. This intro begins with a thunderstorm that is backed by a near mournful atmosphere that is eventually coupled with blasting drums and scythe like riffs half way through. The intro fades in to darkness giving way to the second track The Invocation. The Invocation plays as described above. It is a melodious, atmospheric, foreboding and ultimately heavy and darkened offering that gets your head nodding right from the get go. If you weren’t sucked in to this record from the intro, you surely will once “The Invocation” hits your ears.

The remaining seven tracks play much the same way as The Invocation. Each offering is a melodious dirge of wonderful death as Coldbound offer up melancholic atmospheres, bleak soundscapes and the unrelenting sound of bitter cold death. As each track rumbles along, you get sucked in to the darkness more and more as Coldbound grip you with the cold hand of death making you stay for the entirety of their record. The Gale is a captivating release through and through, and as lengthy as these tracks are they never over stay their welcome and their never get stale. Each one is unique and twisted in its own way making for a unique and devilishly enchanting listen.

Each of the nine tracks that appear through the obscure darkness on The Gale are wonderfully crafted and executed as they gift you with superb musicianship and hellish vocals that are hard to forget. These tracks are thunderous, memorable, heavy, captivating and so many more descriptors making The Gale to be one excellent release by these death dealers. You get droves of heavy death and melody all throughout that is brought to you by excellent musicianship, darkened atmospheres and a clean production as this is a well rounded offering that will be hard to pass up and should not be passed up.

The Gale will be released June 10, 2018.

In mind numbing, chaotic and schizophrenic fashion, grind duo Brutal Blues offers up their newest release simply titled BB. Filled with ten tracks of nothing but ear drum gnashing metal, Brutal Blues intends to make your head spin and your brain buzz. From beginning to end you are accosted on all fronts by this aural assault as Brutal Blues dish out track after track of pure grinding madness. With odd effects added in the background to their harsh and punishing sound, BB is a disorienting and spine twisting listen to say the least. Brutal Blues leaves everything and then some out on the table through this ten track release to provide you with an altogether chaotic and head caving listen.

Brutal Blues set in immediately as they barrel forth with their first track. They don’t give you time to prepare yourself for the assault that you are about to witness as they bombard you with a furious metallic onslaught from the very beginning. This barrage of chaotic metal does not stop until the final song has concluded as Brutal Blues bulldozes from track to track. Never giving you enough time to breathe between each track, Brutal Blues suffocates you with their ear drum tearing and brain impaling sonic blitzkrieg.

From the very get go they make their horrid intentions known as they blast through your speakers with ever spastic drumming, throat blistering screams and schizophrenic riffs to make your head completely spin off of your shoulders. Each track is a maelstrom of burning grind that is sure to sheer your face clean off of your skull. Never once do Brutal Blues take their foot off of your throat as they ladle punishing sound after punishing sound until all is said and done, and even then these tracks will bounce around your head.

BB is an explosive and volatile record, one that snaps your head back as soon as you begin listening. This whiplash inducing release is just that. It is head caving grind done to a tee. BB is a noisy, bombastic and explosive record that will leave you riddled with scalding shrapnel at the end of it all, and that is exactly what a good grind record should do.

BB will be released June 22, 2018 through Give Praise Records.

Nomura/Nulla+: Impronte/Lacrime

NomuraNulla+CDcover.jpeg

Loud, aggressive, in your face, rough around the edges and ultimately head caving is what you get when you listen to Impronte/Lacrime, the new split between Nomura and Nulla+. Each band’s foundation is in black metal but they combine elements of punk and hardcore in to their overall noisy blasphemous sound to provide you with a neck twisting and entirely ballistic sound. Within this split you become subject to five tracks that amount to only eighteen minutes, but within those short minutes you become accosted from all sides by a furious metallic onslaught.

First up to wear down the rest of your already gnarled ear drums is Nomura with two tracks titled Salice (Part I) and Salice (Part II). Nomura incorporates more hardcore than punk in to their otherwise blackened sound providing you with an overall sound that is equivalent to a punch in the mouth. Salice (Part I) starts off slowly and builds in to a noisy and punishing track that gets your head banging right out of the gate. With ever stomping drumming and ever blood curdling raspy screams, Nomura bombastically starts this split off. As Salice (Part I) progresses it descends in to blasting madness for nearly the remainder of its five minute run time before slowing things down once again only to lead you directly in to Salice (Part II).  Part one  bleeds directly in to the second part which begins much the same way. The second part of the track starts off slowly as the first did, slowly building with ominous guitar tones and vocals until finally blowing its lid off around the one and a half minute mark. Around this time Nomura treats you to a mid tempo romp that is heavy and neck bending as barreling drumming stomps through your speakers and those familiar raspy cries force their way through the metallic madness. This track continues its mid tempo onslaught until the final gnarled note has rang through. Each of the parts that Nomura offers to this split are well performed and crafted gifting you with an ultimately heavy opening for what is left to come.

The last three tracks of this split belong to Nulla+. Instead of hardcore, Nulla+ weaves punk in to their blackened foundation greeting you with an altogether in your face assault that does not back down until the split has concluded. Each of the three tracks by Nulla+ are savage yet short onslaughts that grate on your ear drums and get your spine and neck twisting in a hurry. The overall sound in which Nulla+ bombards you with is rough around the edges, unhinged and purely barbaric. These heathens don’t stop for a soul as they rampage onward through track after blistering track of punk infused black metal. From their first track on it is pure mayhem and carnage as each track is completely unhinged and pure sonic madness. With furiously yelled vocals that are coupled with ever spastic drumming and equally frantic riffing, you are treated to something that is heavy and head spinning all the same. From track one on, Nulla+ is unapologetically in your face as they ram their brand of blasphemous metal in to your brain. These three tracks are short but they are punchy, heavy and the embodiment of chaos making Nulla+’s three tracks entirely entertaining yet detrimental.

All in all, Impronte/Lacrime is an entertaining split as Nomura and Nulla+ offer up five tracks of pure entertaining, blasphemous and head splitting metal.
