Disconnect: Tragic Doom

In a wicked culmination of numerous genres, Disconnect presents their newest five track offering Tragic Doom. Sewing together the likes of death metal, black metal, doom and some elements of sludge, Disconnect offers up an eclectic and unique sound. Through each of the five tracks that are present here you are greeted by every genre; not just one, not two, but every genre that Disconnect utilizes. As chaotic as that may sound, Disconnect sew each genre together wonderfully to create a cohesive and multi layered sound.

Once you feel as though you have a track figured out, Disconnect switches gears guiding you down a completely different path. These heathens switch seamlessly from genre to genre, forever contorting them to how they see fit. From pushing you forth toward the throes of death to dragging you asunder to the darkened abyss with doom and striking all the way back to venomous black metal, Disconnect deploys it all to create a sonic assault that is undeniable. Disconnect molds and shapes each track in such a way where each genre that they dabble in has a place in their cacophony of metallic noise.

Tragic Doom is a multi layered and multifaceted release, never to greet you with the same sounds twice as it ushers you through a complete labyrinth of sounds one minute after the next. This EP guides your mind through ever winding and twisting darkened corridors through each track and through each minute. Never once does Disconnect give you time to reflect on what you just heard as they are already ushering forth a new and unique sound.

It is easy to get wrapped up within this offering as it takes you on quite the sonic journey. From beginning to end you get wrapped up in the ever mesmerizing maze of sounds. Disconnect weaves in and out of genres with ease as they take you on break neck journeys with black and death metal, only to slow things down to a murky devilish crawl with their doom and sludge elements. Every now and then they break to present you with clean vocals and near serene sounds only to drag you back in to their ever punishing and wicked tone.

Tragic Doom is a cynical and dark EP, one that doesn’t take too much time to get you acquainted with its overall unique and forever shape shifting tone. Each track is a dark enchantment of black metal, doom, death, sludge and more to provide you with something truly striking and different. Overall, Tragic Doom is a very solid release through and through. Disconnect plays around and experiments with things that may not have been heard in their previous releases, and it all works so well.

Since their inception in 2009, face melters Inferno have been busy ushering forth their aggressive thrashing mad sound. In 2014 these heathens unleashed an EP titled Arrodillate, and less than three years later they put forth their debut full length Human Genetics. Surgery: Absorbing Roots

Emerging from pungent crypts and entrails soaked soil is aptly named Surgery with their new offering Absorbing Roots. Surgery’s style of death firmly roots itself in the vein of the old, taking a raw and resurrected sound and cleaning it up a bit while adding their own spin on it. Through nine tracks Surgery presents you with raw and rotting death metal through and through. There isn’t anything within these offerings that taint Surgery’s overall death metal torture as what you get is pure vein bleeding death metal from track one to track nine.

No filler is needed here as Surgery steamrolls from one track to the next gifting you with one bleeding offering one right after another without so much as a little breathing room in between. Each track is pretty straight forward death metal as you are hit with rotting riffs and ever pummeling drumming that are only to be backed by bleeding zombie like vocals. While Absorbing Roots isn’t a release that is breaking new ground, it isn’t trying to nor does it have to. This record follows in the footsteps of its death metal forefathers as it brings to you sickening death metal one track after another with disregard to aesthetic and trends.

Through and through, you are treated to nine solid tracks that are rolled out to provide you with a thorough bludgeoning. Each offering is a bloody and fiendish one as they provide you with a filthy and grime laden sound. This is pure death and nothing but, and once you press play you get that tepid whiff of warm rot that makes you wretch. These are grotesque offering that aim to gut and maim and leave you to the crows.

Absorbing Roots is a solid record through and through as it shows off nine tracks of deadly yet melodic death metal for your twisted enjoyment. Through each of the nine offerings you are greeted with solid musicianship, sinister vocals and plenty of melody to get your head banging. Overall, this is a pretty standard death metal record that pumps nine solid cuts through its veins that gets your head banging for sure.

Nihilus: Splitting Atoms (Official Lyric Video)

Hailing from Bangalore, India are tech death monsters Nihilus. Next year in February they are slated to drop their record Borealis, but for now we have their first single Splitting Atoms. This track has much to do with the atrocities of war and of course the devastation of atom bombs. Within this track you are treated to technical pin point riffs that are supplemented by ever somersaulting drumming and throat shredding vocals. And while this is tech death, it isn’t over technical to the point where it is migraine inducing. This is technical, but melodic and well constructed providing you with a neck cranking overall solid track. Splitting Atoms is a nice taste of what we can come to expect from the rest of the record once it does drop, but for now we have this explosive offering.
