Emerging from pungent crypts and entrails soaked soil is aptly named Surgery with their new offering Absorbing Roots. Surgery’s style of death firmly roots itself in the vein of the old, taking a raw and resurrected sound and cleaning it up a bit while adding their own spin on it. Through nine tracks Surgery presents you with raw and rotting death metal through and through. There isn’t anything within these offerings that taint Surgery’s overall death metal torture as what you get is pure vein bleeding death metal from track one to track nine.

No filler is needed here as Surgery steamrolls from one track to the next gifting you with one bleeding offering one right after another without so much as a little breathing room in between. Each track is pretty straight forward death metal as you are hit with rotting riffs and ever pummeling drumming that are only to be backed by bleeding zombie like vocals. While Absorbing Roots isn’t a release that is breaking new ground, it isn’t trying to nor does it have to. This record follows in the footsteps of its death metal forefathers as it brings to you sickening death metal one track after another with disregard to aesthetic and trends.

Through and through, you are treated to nine solid tracks that are rolled out to provide you with a thorough bludgeoning. Each offering is a bloody and fiendish one as they provide you with a filthy and grime laden sound. This is pure death and nothing but, and once you press play you get that tepid whiff of warm rot that makes you wretch. These are grotesque offering that aim to gut and maim and leave you to the crows.

Absorbing Roots is a solid record through and through as it shows off nine tracks of deadly yet melodic death metal for your twisted enjoyment. Through each of the nine offerings you are greeted with solid musicianship, sinister vocals and plenty of melody to get your head banging. Overall, this is a pretty standard death metal record that pumps nine solid cuts through its veins that gets your head banging for sure.
