In blackened malevolence and morbidity comes Sykelig Englen summoned up from the crypts with them comes their newest offering titled This Hollow Land. This EP features three tracks plus one bonus offering totaling four tracks of nothing but raw, dissonant and hauntingly atmospheric black metal. This Hollow Land overall has a raw and organic sound to it making it overall dissonant and gritty. There are no gimmicks or tricks utilized here within this release as what you get is pure atmospheric blackened metal that tears your soul asunder. You are not given a moment of reprieve as This Hollow Land does not offer intros, outros, interludes or anything of the like as you become enveloped from beginning to end in harrowing, chilling black metal.

This release is biting, bitter and cold as it provides you with icy atmospherics that are underlying beneath the ritualistic sonic pourings of metallic darkness. Darkened and ever ceaseless, each of the four offerings that are present here are straight forward black metal assaults that are summoned from their tombs to gift you with a gritty and malevolent listen. Through and through you become treated to slashing riffs with the occasional guitar solo, dissonant drum work and horrifying haunting screams that pierce through the ever winding sonic abyss. As mentioned before, through all of the sonic darkness is an underlying atmosphere that is as haunting and chilling as you would come to expect.

The added atmospheric elements tie in nicely bringing each track together making them full bodied and cohesive. Each of the four tracks that represent this EP are well rounded and well executed making the entire EP comprehensive and well thought out. From the musicianship to the raw production to the hellish vocals to the ever present swirling atmosphere, Sykelig Englen creates something here that is pure blasphemy. This Hollow Land is a solid release through and through as it offers up four solid tracks one right after the next of nothing but blasphemous and chilling black metal.

This Hollow Land treats you to frigid, dark, twisting and morbid offerings that keep you coming back for more haunting blasphemy. If you are a fan of black metal, atmospheric black metal or anything akin to those, This Hollow Land certainly is the EP for you to check out.
