Beginning their deadly career in 2004, Blaspherion has released a demo in 2005 one live album in 2016 and last year they unleashed their debut EP upon the world titled Restus Corpus. This offering comes with four tracks that are played in the vein of old-school death metal. This genre is tried and true with plenty of newer death metal bands adopting the grimy old-school sound. While with their new offering Restus Corpus, Blaspherion doesn’t necessarily break new ground or pave a new path with their sound, what they do well is hold true to the old-school sound to provide and entertaining and deadly overall listen.

After a brief haunting intro, Blaspherion gets right in to the thick of their new effort with three straight tracks of nothing but barbaric death metal. Each track is a ripping old-school death metal anthem that throws you back in time when death metal was first crawling out of its dim dungeon. Through four tracks you are presented with a gritty and slime filled sound that sticks to your ribs whether you like it to or not. With buzzing assaulting riffs that are paired up with rumbling blasting drums and hellish throat ripping vocals, you become trapped in a sonic wall of venomous death.

While this EP is a short one, Restus Corpus certainly does pack a punch within its short run time. This satanic blackened fire baptized release rolls out track after track of old-school butchering death metal that is hard to deny. Fourteen years after their inception this EP comes about and it is a solid debut EP to say the least. Each track on this offering is just as solid as the others and packs just as much of a deadly punch as the others as well. The overall rotten and fetid is a welcome one as well as one that will be sure to please the chewed up ear drums of death metal fans.

Overall, Restus Corpus is a solid EP, one that gets your head banging and your neck twisting in no time. As mentioned before, Restus Corpus doesn’t break any new mold here, but it does supply you with your fix of rotting death metal.
