The old-school style of death metal is tried and true, and more and more newer death metal bands are taking to the old-school approach. Some bands hit the nail on the head while others fall short. Boethiah fall in to the former category. Boethiah take cues from their death metal forefathers but certainly create a sound all their own. Invocation of the Xenolith is riddled with nine blood craving and flesh starved tracks of nothing but shredding and lobotomizing death metal. This is straight forward death, nothing but. From beginning to end you come face to face with grisly effort after grisly effort that aim only to mutilate and snap necks.

Invocation of the Xenolith is a bleeding raw and unfiltered release, one that presents you with an oh so welcome ancient sound of ancient death. Kept raw and untamed, Invocation of the Xenolith presents you with a sound that hearkens back to when death metal first began to appear through a mist of crimson. This merciless record pours its sickness out in massive proportions as it nearly immediately begins to deflesh and gut you from the onset. Each track within Invocation of the Xenolith is just as brutalizing and terrorizing as the last track that came to take your life as Boethiah rattle off track after track of pure terror. These New Mexico and California natives firmly dig their blade into your throat from the very beginning never to relent until your head is rolling in the dirt and its contents have been dug out.

Each of the nine tracks within this blood letting offering support pretty substantial run times giving Boethiah plenty of time to carve your corpse however they see fit. Through each track you will get a taste of some doom aspects that are reminiscent of Autopsy as well as pure flesh shredding and marrow draining sonic onslaughts. These components work hand in hand to provide you with an overall skull grinding and flesh carving sound that is hard to want to stop listening to. Each of the nine tracks that appear throughout Invocation of the Xenolith are wonderfully crafted and executed providing you with nothing but pure, relentless and gutting death in monstrous proportions.

From the very beginning you get that wonderful tepid whiff of foul ancient offal that ultimately follows you throughout. This is old-school death metal done in the modern era to a tee. There isn’t a track here that is lacking anything as each and every one of the nine tracks throughout are superbly done. For a debut full length, Invocation of the Xenolith certainly is impressive and addictive. You won’t be able to get enough of this record. With its ever menacing atmosphere,  its ever charging onslaught of mutilating death and much more, Invocation of the Xenolith is an all around excellent record.
